Location | 'Shavit' movie theater, Haifa
This project focuses on the "Shavit" cinema building which is located next to the Moriah axis in Haifa. The building was transferred a process at the end of which it was converted from a nostalgic cinema building to a contemporary museum building.
I chose to take cinema as a concept and as a milestone to dive into the project.
This choice was made by the act of transcribing how the cinematic scene was constructed.
In this way, each element of the scene receives its own translation from the very essence of the building design process itself.
Part of my inspiration derived from two films- Play Time by Jacques Tati 1967 and Inception by Christopher Nolan 2010. from the former I have learned about repetitiveness and creating special moments in small spaces. And from the latter I was inspired by the notions of dreams and how they can affect our realities. Moreover the use of continues spaces and stairs for design ideas.
In final design I have decided to reserve the building and some of it interior spaces but reshaping most of the inside and adding new parts on the outside of the building to create more of an holistic place for the new museum.
